Air Niugini, the national airline, is wholly owned by the State through a shareholding held by IPBC. Air Niugini commenced operations in 1973 and since August 1996 has operated as a company under the Companies Act reporting the State (government) through IPBC

It has been operating for 35 years and Its core business function is providing air services for passengers and cargo in PNG and in the Asia Pacific Region.
